Sadly, 54-year-old actor Nicky Katt passed away.
John Sloss, founder and partner of Sloss Law, confirmed to Deadline that the firm represented the late actor and that he had passed away. The cause of death and other specifics have not yet been made public.
Since the announcement, coworkers and critics have mourned the death of a famous actor.
Beau Flynn, CEO of Flynn Picture Company, wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Heartbroken to learn about the way too early passing of the seriously talented actor Nicky Katt – God bless you my friend. What a privilege to know you and work with you on my first movie in 1995 – ‘johns’. Rest in peace brother.”
Film critic Barry Hertz shared, “Nicky Katt should’ve/could’ve been 2010’s Walton Goggins. Phenomenal in everything from Boston Public to Planet Terror. RIP.”
Supporters agreed, recalling Katt’s memorable parts and cult-favorite performances.
A user wrote, “Nicky Katt is further proof that DAZED AND CONFUSED was one of the greatest ensemble pieces ever ‘I only came here to do two things, kick ass and drink beer’ Rest easy to a real rough & tumble man.”
Another said he was “supporting star legend in the likes of The Dark Knight, Dazed And Confused, Boiler Room, The Limey, A Time To Kill & more,” and added, “A genius talent who always delivered.”

At the age of seven, Katt started acting, and the 1977 television series CHiPs was his first TV appearance.
He paved the way for a decades-long career in Hollywood by starring in a series of early television hits, such as Father Murphy, Fantasy Island, and Herbie the Love Bug.
His most famous part is that of Clint Bruno in Richard Linklater’s 1993 coming-of-age film Dazed and Confused, in which he co-starred alongside Ben Affleck, Matthew McConaughey, and Parker Posey.
School of Rock (2003), Sister Act (1992), A Time To Kill, SubUrbia (1996), and Batman & Robin (1997) are just a few of his tremendous film and television credits.
His career includes The Way of the Gun (2000) and Insomnia (2002), along with a number of cameo appearances in popular television shows such as Friends, The Guardian, King of the Hill, Monk, and Law and Order.
In 2018, Katt had her final TV appearance in the original series Casual on Hulu. He virtually reconnected with his Dazed and Confused co-stars in 2020 for a special script reading in support of March for Science and the Voto Latino Foundation.
Over the years, he collaborated with a number of Hollywood celebrities, such as Renee Zellweger, Alicia Silverstone, Meryl Streep, George Clooney, and Whoopi Goldberg.
Right now, our thoughts are with Katt’s family.
Cause of death revealed:
“Law enforcement sources tell us … Katt’s body was discovered hanging inside his L.A. area apartment by his landlord on April 8,” TMZ reported.
“Our sources say the landlord visited Katt’s apartment about a week earlier, telling him his rent was due, and he needed to pay it.”
Katt reportedly did not leave a suicide note, according to the report from TMZ.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
